The New Paltz Huguenots will head out on the road to challenge the Wallkill Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Paltz is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
While New Paltz's victory against Our Lady of Lourdes wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Huguenots had just enough and edged out the Warriors 5-3. The Huguenots haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
New Paltz's victory was truly a team effort as nine different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bella Morales, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Wallkill came out on top against Red Hook on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Raiders. Considering the Panthers have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Emma Hunt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Wallkill let Adrianna Gomez and Madison Auger run wild. Gomez went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Auger got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that Gomez has hit this season. Sophia Lacelle was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Wallkill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Wallkill now has a winning record of 6-5-2. As for New Paltz, their record now sits at 7-3.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. New Paltz hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Wallkill struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Paltz might still be hurting after the 10-4 defeat they got from Wallkill when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Huguenots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
