V Section II recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in V Section II this week, Bourgade Catholic beat Antelope 42-9. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Yuma Catholic took down Tonopah Valley 62-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jagan Cleary threw for 176 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for 18 yards during the win.
Drew Inness provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Northwest Christian lost to Arizona Lutheran Academy. He completed 9 passes for 109 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 114 yards. Inness' key target this week was Matt Delos, who caught 4 passes for 45 yards.
Matt Pistone made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Shamrocks topped the Phoenix. He grabbed 1 interception, forced 1 fumble, recorded 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.
Cleary put up the best numbers through the air as Yuma Catholic defeated Tonopah Valley. Cleary's favorite target this week was Pistone, who caught 4 passes for 58 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Coyotes' Cameron Haag and Brady Cook have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Haag has thrown for 1,351 yards this season, while Cook has 29 catches for 687 yards. Saul Rascon from Bourgade Catholic leads the league in rushing with 969 yards.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Arizona Lutheran Academy's Cook goes up against Rhett Stalllworth's team's Carter Rodriguez.
Pat Lavin's team's Rascon is a mere 31 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Rascon has rushed for 969 yards on 120 carries so far this year.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Scott Indahl's team takes on the Shamrocks. The Coyotes' offense has racked up 312 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Yuma Catholic has allowed only 44 on the year.
Next week's game between Arizona Lutheran Academy and the Shamrocks will feature a good passing match up as Haag will test his arm against Rodriguez's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in V Section II this week will be when Northwest Christian takes on the Golden Eagles. Dave Inness' team is in third place, while Bourgade Catholic is in first place.
