The Granby Comets will face off against the Menchville Monarchs on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Granby is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Nansemond River get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Comets, who have now won 11 games in a row.
Kyrsten Wells was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Anwynn Williams and Kya Harris did most of the damage at the plate: Williams got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Harris got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Harris has posted since back in May of 2024. Mackenzie Pastorious was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Granby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nansemond River only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, Menchville came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bulldogs 12-2.
Like Granby, Menchville also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Twitchell (2027). She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Twitchell (2027) was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Rivera (2026), who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Koskinas (2028), who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Granby's victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Menchville, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Granby has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .512. However, it's not like Menchville struggles in that department as they've averaged .494. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Granby's way against Menchville when the teams last played back in June of 2022, as Granby made off with a 9-1 victory. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Monarchs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
