The Apollo Hawks won the last time they faced the South Mountain Jaguars, and things went their way on Thursday too. Apollo simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat South Mountain 81-42 on the road. Given Apollo's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while South Mountain is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Apollo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Moreno led the charge by scoring 12 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Moreno hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Elijah White was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with 4 steals.
Despite the loss, South Mountain saw an underclassman step up: Omari Hollin scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Damion Ruiz-Graham, who scored 6 points.
Apollo's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. As for South Mountain, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apollo will take on Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Apollo likes a good challenge. South Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Sierra Linda at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Sierra Linda has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
