Grand County is a perfect 6-0 against North Sevier since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Grand County will be playing at home against North Sevier at 2:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Grand County: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while North Sevier has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Grand County came up short against Beaver on Monday, falling 7-1. The contest marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Hope Shumway spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Grand County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaiya Moore, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Moore has posted over her last 12 games.
Meanwhile, North Sevier had just enough and edged out Wayne 7-6 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted against the Badgers since April 23, 2021.
North Sevier also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Chloe Malmgren gave up five earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Malmgren.
On the hitting side, Avery Taylor and Zoey Rhees did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Rhees scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Reagan Hone was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
North Sevier's win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-2. As for Grand County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grand County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like North Sevier struggles in that department as they've averaged .535. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Grand County's way against North Sevier in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Grand County made off with a 19-9 victory. Does Grand County have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Sevier turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
