Tarboro (14-0) and Mount Airy (14-0) face off this Saturday at 4:00 PM to determine whose season will come to a close. Tarboro is in the midst of a 14-game blowout streak and hopes to make Mount Airy its next victim.
Tarboro went up against John A. Holmes last week. Tarboro got off to a good start with a 28-point offensive effort in the first half. That gave them a 28 - 0 advantage at the half. The offense continued to do well in the second half, scoring 22 points. In the end, Tarboro steamrollered its way to an easy 50 - 7 victory.
As for Mount Airy, it was able to grind out a solid victory over Murphy last week, winning 49 - 35. Senior Ian Holder deserves a lot of the credit as he rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Holder's 75-yard rush in the fourth quarter especially got the fans up on their feet. If you haven't heard of Holder, then you haven't been paying attention since he has loomed large in Mount Airy's past 14 games.
There could be some fireworks in this game: Mount Airy has finished with big points in its past three games; likewise, Tarboro has had high scores in its last nine.
