The Deep Run Wildcats will challenge the J.R. Tucker Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deep Run is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Deep Run is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since April 12, 2024 on Monday. They lost 9-1 to Cosby. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Wildcats' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Deep Run saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Saunders, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Saunders has hit this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between J.R. Tucker and Freeman, and Freeman kept the tradition alive. The Tigers took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mavericks on Friday.
Caleb Wood was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Wood was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Joey Noel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Christian Barrett was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
J.R. Tucker's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Deep Run, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4.
J.R. Tucker's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Deep Run has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. It's a different story for J.R. Tucker, though, as they've only averaged .297. Will they be able to contain Deep Run's hitters?
Everything went Deep Run's way against J.R. Tucker in their previous matchup back in March, as Deep Run made off with a 14-0 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
