The Mountain View Thunder will head out on the road to face off against the Peninsula Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Peninsula took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mountain View, who comes in off a win.
With a playoff game on the line, Mountain View rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Cougars 62-38. Mountain View has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Mountain View's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Layla Senderson led the charge by scoring 16 points along with three steals. Senderson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Camaria Brown was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Peninsula struggled with assists on Friday (North Thurston had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Peninsula was beaten by North Thurston 76-48. Peninsula was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-20.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Daisy Peay, who scored 12 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Richardson, who scored seven points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Mountain View's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. As for Peninsula, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Mountain View have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Peninsula struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
