The Vicksburg Gators were the 65-47 winner over the Callaway Chargers when they last played one another on January 2nd, but their luck changed this time around. Vicksburg took a 68-54 bruising from Callaway on Friday. Vicksburg has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Callaway's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Javarian Mallard, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Taylor, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Vicksburg's loss ended a 11-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5. As for Callaway, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vicksburg will square off against Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Columbus is ranked 13th, while Vicksburg is ranked 15th). Callaway won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Central Hinds Academy on January 20th. Central Hinds Academy is on a three-game streak of home losses, Callaway a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
