4A/5A Southwest recap September 24, 2013
Durango was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Farmington. The Demons came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A/5A Southwest this week, Montrose beat Hinkley 49-6,. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Indians.
Fruita Monument's dynamic duo of Jake Lynch and Brandon Kubic proved to be unstoppable against Highlands Ranch, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lynch threw for 156 yards and Kubic had 84 yards receiving. Cody Basinger helped Fruita Monument's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 44 yards.
The Wildcats' dynamic duo of Lynch and Kubic proved tough for the Falcons to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

AUSTIN LEWIS was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 135 yards on 21 carries as Grand Junction beat Darrel Gorham's team. TYLER HEINSMA also contributed to the rushing game with 81 yards on the ground.
Kubic was the best receiver in the league this week as the Wildcats defeated the Falcons.
Grand Junction's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. HEINSMA has thrown for 629 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while THERON VERNA has 15 catches for 249 yards.
One of 4A/5A Southwest's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Tigers and Fruita Monument face off next week.
At the moment, the Wildcats are in fourth, while Grand Junction is in third.
Fruita Monument and Highlands Ranch played the closest game in the league this week, with Fruita Monument eventually emerging with a 18-17 victory. Lynch ran for 47 yards in the win.
