Chico hasn't had much luck against Pleasant Valley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will challenge the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Chico is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Chico is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over Shasta. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Leah Cawthon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Cawthon was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Caroline LaMoe was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Gioella Pennisi also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Chico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pleasant Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Red Bluff on Tuesday.
Like Chico, Pleasant Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Alissa Snipes. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Snipes was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Thurman, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Pleasant Valley is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Chico, their record is now 17-11.
