Basketball Recap: Maria Geary's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Avon over Le Roy

Avon lost against Le Roy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Avon Braves fell just short of the Le Roy Oatkan Knights by a score of 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Braves have suffered since December 18, 2024.

Several Braves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maria Geary, who posted 19 points and six rebounds. That was a full 47.5% of Avon's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelie Salogar, who scored eight points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Avon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive contests.

Avon has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Le Roy, they pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Avon will take on Dansville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Le Roy has already played their next game (against Attica), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
