Two dominant signal callers in Quinn Boyd and Jacob Pruitt are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Granada Matadors will be playing at home against the Rancho Cotate Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Granada beat Livermore 35-25. The victory was just what Granada needed coming off of a 48-0 loss in their prior game.
Granada's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Peyton Richards, who picked up 159 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Clouser, who gained 160 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Rancho Cotate can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over Santa Rosa. Given Rancho Cotate's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Santa Rosa is ranked 626th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rancho Cotate's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Geovanny Ortiz led the charge by rushing for 153 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Ortiz is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Pruitt was another key contributor, rushing for 79 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Their wins bumped Granada to 7-3 and Rancho Cotate to 6-4.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Granada has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 384.6 total yards per game. However, it's not like Rancho Cotate struggles in that department as they've been averaging 350.5 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Granada was dealt a bruising 37-0 loss at the hands of Rancho Cotate in their previous matchup back in November of 2021. Will Granada have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
