The South Brunswick Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to West Brunswick 62-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ziyon Smith, who scored eight points along with three blocks. Another player making a difference was Jaelon Johnson, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Brunswick to victory, but perhaps none more so than K'Veon Griffin, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Royce Metters, who scored eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
South Brunswick has been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for West Brunswick, they pushed their record up to 6-10 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
South Brunswick will take on Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoggard presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Brunswick in North Carolina (Hoggard is ranked 137th, while South Brunswick is ranked 506th). As for West Brunswick, they will head out on the road to face off against New Hanover at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Hanover is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
