Seaside has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Marina Mariners at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Seaside was able to grind out a solid win over Stevenson, taking the game 65-54. The win was just what Seaside needed coming off of a 69-47 loss in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Marina had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past North Monterey County 62-60. Given Marina's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while North Monterey County is ranked 935th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marina's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julius Robinson, who scored 26 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least a third of Marina's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Bonnard Webb, who scored 19 points.
Seaside's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12. As for Marina, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Seaside took a serious blow against Marina in their previous meeting on January 4th, falling 75-47. Can Seaside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
