Lehi has gone 9-1 against Westlake recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pioneers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Thunder at 3:30 p.m. Lehi is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Lehi is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Ridgeline, who was ranked 11th at the time (Lehi was ranked 19th). The Pioneers put the hurt on the Riverhawks with a sharp 9-3 win on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pioneers.
Lehi got a great performance from Sean Mcafee as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Brandon Manookin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cole Ybarra, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Lehi was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Westlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Green Canyon. On the bright side, the ten- run effort marked the Thunder's highest-scoring game to date.
Westlake also got a good showing from Max Loveless, who pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Loveless has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Andrew Hernandez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those triples marked the first that he hit this season. Tyson Lafferty was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Lehi's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Westlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Westlake's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lehi has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Westlake, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Lehi's sizable advantage in that area, the Thunder will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lehi took their win against Westlake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-3 score. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunder turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
