Last Friday, Wellington-Napoleon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-40 to the Saints.
Despite their defeat, Wellington-Napoleon saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Haden Terrill, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Lucas Waterworth was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Wellington-Napoleon struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They were beaten by Crest Ridge 71-43. While losing is never fun, Santa Fe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 543rd, while the Cougars are ranked 127th).
Wellington-Napoleon now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Santa Fe, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.
Wellington-Napoleon and the Chiefs were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but the Tigers came up empty-handed after a 32-31 defeat. Can Wellington-Napoleon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
