San Antonio Christian was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Poteet on Friday. San Antonio Christian put the hurt on Poteet with a sharp 21-11 victory. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Lions, who until this game were averaging 3.3 runs allowed.
The team relied heavily on Taytum Robert, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Anjie Meza, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
San Antonio Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .707. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Saint Mary's Hall was not the first on the board last Thursday, but they got there more often. They blew past St. Anthony 11-5. Winning may never get old, but the Barons sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Meryl Jones made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Jones was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Saint Mary's Hall got a massive performance out of Torrey Baker, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave Baker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Thienpont, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one triple.
Saint Mary's Hall pushed their record up to 8-4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for San Antonio Christian, their record now sits at 6-4.
San Antonio Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. San Antonio Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Saint Mary's Hall, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will San Antonio Christian continue to outrun the ball?
