The West Chicago Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Glenbard East Rams at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Monday, West Chicago made easy work of Fenton and carried off a 12-1 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bison recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Lesley Garcia looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sophia Ptak was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Mueller, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Glenbard East entered their tilt with Ridgewood on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Rebels 12-5. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Melissa Saldana was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Emma Jaras also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Glenbard East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Glenbard East pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for West Chicago, their record now sits at 17-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. West Chicago hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Glenbard East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
West Chicago skirted past Glenbard East 2-0 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
