There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. The action included a dizzyingly high 116-point combined score from Seaside and Gladstone.
Welcome
Even if it wasn't quite the margin the team was expecting, Sunset's contest against Southridge still finished up like the MaxPreps state rankings predicted. Sunset had just enough, edging out Southridge 27 - 24. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for Sunset after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close. Thanks to its success, Sunset cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 21st spot.
Can't Touch This
Even though Mountain View was bested by Grants Pass 49 - 41 last week, Mountain View's senior Jonas Larson played one heck of a game. He earned four touchdowns and 278 yards rushing the ball. That performance landed Larson among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Sheldon and West Linn, 3rd and 4th in the power rankings, respectively. Sheldon earned a pretty comfortable 42 - 27 victory over West Linn. Sheldon gave the West Linn offensive line some real trouble with five sacks (and will no doubt be looking to keep the pressure on West Salem this Friday).
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Clackamas (2nd in the power rankings) and Lake Oswego (1st). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Don't be surprised if the score for this one pushes triple digits as Lake Oswego and Clackamas both racked up points last week.
