Brody Meyer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one double.
In other pitching news, Cason Hagerman looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
Meyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Max King, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Catalina Foothills never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Cienega with a sharp 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Canyon View, Catalina Foothills also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryce Weege. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. Weege was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nate Shoemaker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Ganon Dwyer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Catalina Foothills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cienega only posted an OBP of .118.
Catalina Foothills has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Canyon View, their victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 28-4.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canyon View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like Catalina Foothills struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canyon View couldn't quite get it done against Catalina Foothills in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
