After a string of three wins, the Rocky Mount Gryphons's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 58-37 defeat at the hands of Southern Nash. The matchup was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Rocky Mount struggled afterwards.
Several Gryphons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gerald Davis, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Southern Nash's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Hill, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Tylik Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Rocky Mount's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Southern Nash, they pushed their record up to 9-10 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Rocky Mount will square off against Franklinton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Franklinton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for Southern Nash, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Northern Nash at 7:30 p.m. Northern Nash knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Southern Nash likes a good challenge.
