Tri is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Northeastern is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Tri Titans will take on the Northeastern Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tri knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Northeastern likes a good challenge.
Tri pushed their score all the way to 56 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Waldron. Tri found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post nine fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Tri got a solid performance out of Josiah Cox, who scored 31 points. Bryant Cornelius was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Northeastern's game on Tuesday was all tied up 25-25 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They snuck past Union County with a 54-48 win. Given Northeastern's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Union County is ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northeastern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Landon Scarrette, who scored 18 points. Scarrette is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Wesley Hunt, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Tri's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Northeastern, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Tri have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 40.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they've nailed 46.6% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Tri ended up a good deal behind Northeastern when the teams last played back in February of 2023, losing 62-48. Thankfully for Tri, Keaton Mikesell (who scored 26 points along with two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
