Houston Academy is a perfect 3-0 against New Brockton since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Houston Academy Raiders will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the New Brockton Gamecocks at 5:00 p.m. Houston Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Houston Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Providence Christian. They won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 5-4.
Whit Price made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Price was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Soles Faulk was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Eben Wells also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, New Brockton got themselves on the board against Bullock County on Tuesday, but Bullock County never followed suit. They blew past the Hornets 18-0.
Clark Moran looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryant Crumpler, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton McLaughlin, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
The victory got Houston Academy back to even at 2-2. As for New Brockton, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Houston Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like New Brockton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Houston Academy's way against New Brockton in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, as Houston Academy made off with a 19-3 win. Does Houston Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Brockton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
