The Horizon Hawks were the 41-38 winner over the Boone Braves when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Horizon suffered a rough 62-42 loss at the hands of the Braves on Wednesday. It was the first time this season that Horizon let down their fans at home.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amaya Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. Mitchell has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Molly Smith, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Horizon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Boone only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Boone's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mckenna Murphy, who scored 20 points along with two steals. Murphy is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria DelaCruz, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Horizon's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-6. As for Boone, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-3.
Horizon will be playing at home against the Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Harmony will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 313th, while the Hawks are ranked 109th). As for Boone, they will head out on the road to challenge the Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
