Gonzales and the Vikings are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Gonzales Spartans will be playing at home against the North Salinas Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Wednesday, Gonzales was the victim of a rough 74-53 loss at the hands of the Mustangs.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but North Salinas ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 63-61 win over Monte Vista Christian. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Jaiden Gomez was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 17 points. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of David Jauregui, who scored 11 points.
Gonzales' defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for North Salinas, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-13.
Gonzales lost to the Vikings at home by a decisive 71-55 margin when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of North Salinas' Shane Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Now that Gonzales knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
