The South Effingham Mustangs were the 43-32 winner over the Lakeside Panthers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. South Effingham took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lakeside on Friday. While losing is never fun, South Effingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Lakeside is ranked 99th).
Despite the loss, South Effingham still got an impressive performance from Elena Hairston, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Hairston is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Hayden Johanson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
South Effingham are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15. As for Lakeside, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Effingham will take on Glynn Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Glynn Academy is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Lakeside, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Evans at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Evans focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
