Ponderosa is 0-9 against Regis Jesuit since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Ponderosa Mustangs will be playing at home against the Regis Jesuit Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Ponderosa will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Regis Jesuit is ranked 20th).
Ponderosa struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (Douglas County had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Ponderosa took a 67-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Douglas County. Ponderosa has not had much luck with Douglas County recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Ponderosa got a solid performance out of Maddison Neale, who went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Neale has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Miale Ames, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Regis Jesuit can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 81-35 win over Chaparral on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Regis Jesuit has posted yet this season.
Regis Jesuit got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Coryn Watts out in front who scored 17 points along with five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hana Belibi, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Ponderosa bumped their record down to 4-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Regis Jesuit, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Ponderosa have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.5 threes per game. It's a different story for Regis Jesuit, though, as they've been averaging only 7.8 threes per game. Given Ponderosa's sizeable advantage in that area, Regis Jesuit will need to find a way to close that gap.
Ponderosa was dealt a bruising 80-15 defeat at the hands of Regis Jesuit in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ponderosa was down 54-8.
