If the Moffat County Bulldogs were feeling good off their 51-26 takedown of the Hayden Tigers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Moffat County was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 45-44 to Summit. Moffat County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Summit apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Moffat County still got an impressive performance from Mena Tucker, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tucker has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Jo Knez, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Moffat County were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit only racked up eight assists.
Summit can attribute much of their success to Kayla Smith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Avery Eytel, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Moffat County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Summit, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Moffat County will take on Delta at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Delta will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. As for Summit, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Steamboat Springs at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
