The Willowbrook Warriors will take on the Amundsen Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, Willowbrook made easy work of Woodrow Wilson and carried off an 11-1 victory.
Isabel Bates was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Allison Coppersmith was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two triples, and one RBI. Those triples marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Sonia Ruchala, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Amundsen hadn't done well against DePaul College Prep recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Vikings' pitchers stepped up to hand the Rams an 11-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Maeve Oliver looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Ashley Ellevog was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Hulliberger, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Amundsen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DePaul College Prep only posted an OBP of .333.
Amundsen's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Willowbrook, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Willowbrook has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Amundsen struggles in that department as they've averaged .548. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
