The North Broward Prep Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Killian Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Broward Prep is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games.
On Wednesday, North Broward Prep needed a bit of extra time to put away True North Classical Academy. They had just enough and edged out the Titans 4-3.
Kiernan O'Neill made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Jack Rostock tossed a big game, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
O'Neill wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Mestre, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Killian got the win against JC Bermudez Doral on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Killian also got a great performance from Zach Fernandez as he tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Jonathan Acosta was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Killian is undefeated when Acosta posts two or more runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jahdon Heron, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Killian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
North Broward Prep pushed their record up to 19-5 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Killian, their record now sits at 10-11.
North Broward Prep skirted past Killian 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
