Bagdad is 1-9 against Salome since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bagdad Sultans will look to defend their home court against the Salome Frogs at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Bagdad: 29.1, Salome: 23.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
Bagdad posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They blew past North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, posting a 42-6 victory at home.
Even though Salome has not done well against Fort Thomas recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way last Saturday. Salome had just enough and edged Fort Thomas out 31-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Salome has posted yet this season.
Salome's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaniece Thomas led the charge by scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Thomas is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Grecia Leon was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Bagdad's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8. As for Salome, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Bagdad ended up a good deal behind Salome in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, losing 33-17. Can Bagdad avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
