Alcorn Central had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the New Albany Bulldogs. The Bears have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.
Sydnee Norman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, McKinley Byrd was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last ten games. Another player making a difference was Journey Phillips, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Alcorn Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Alcorn Central now has a winning record of 7-6. As for New Albany, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Looking ahead, Alcorn Central will face off against Walnut at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Walnut is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season. New Albany will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Independence at 6:30 p.m. on April 7th.
