Winter Park is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will head out on the road to face off against the Timber Creek Wolves at 6:00 p.m. Winter Park will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Winter Park is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Cypress Creek on Monday. The Wildcats not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024.
Rylie Scanlon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Winter Park got a big performance out of Bridget Story, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Story a new career-high. Carrie Dulgar also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Winter Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Timber Creek never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against University on Monday. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Gabbi Scott looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Naomi Pette was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Terrizzi, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Timber Creek's record is now 5-7. As for Winter Park, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-9.
Winter Park couldn't quite get it done against Timber Creek in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can Winter Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
