The Regents Lions will be taking part in a tournament against the Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Regents is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Regents is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Western Albemarle on Friday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2.
Tucker Jamison made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Westover Christian Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Timberlake Christian on Wednesday. The Bulldogs blew past the Tornadoes 11-5. Considering the Bulldogs have won four games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Colt Cromy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Jay Miller was a standout: he earned three runs and five stolen bases. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Elijah Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Westover Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Regents' loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Westover Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Regents hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Westover Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
