It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Bessemer Academy Rebels had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gators and snuck past 67-65. Winning may never get old, but Bessemer Academy sure is getting used to it with their 13th in a row.
Bessemer Academy had a senior duo take command as Johnathan Winston scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals and JJ Jeter scored 23 points. Winston hasn't dropped below 18 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jeran Jones, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Bessemer Academy's victory bumped their record up to 23-1. As for Glenwood, their loss dropped their record down to 22-11.
Bessemer Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lee-Scott Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. One thing working in Bessemer Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten games. Glenwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
