There's no place like home for the Morenci Wildcats, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They took their contest at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 61-28 win over San Tan Charter. With Morenci ahead 36-13 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Morenci's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elena Leonard led the charge by scoring 11 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Leonard hasn't dropped below two steals for 18 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Wilson, who scored eight points along with eight steals.
Morenci's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for San Tan Charter, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morenci will face off against the Pumas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for San Tan Charter, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th.
