The Liberty Lancers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They strolled past Cheyenne Mountain with points to spare, taking the game 66-50. The win was some much needed relief for Liberty as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Liberty was led to victory by Ava Dawes and Samira Gantt. Dawes dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Gantt scored 18 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Dawes has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Jacie Bunck was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Cheyenne Mountain's loss came despite strong showings from Ainsley Norton and Vianey Garcia-ramos. Norton scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Garcia-ramos scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 46% of Cheyenne Mountain's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Liberty's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.
Liberty will square off against Pine Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pine Creek is coming into the match with five straight victories at home, so Liberty is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they will head out on the road to challenge Air Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Air Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Cheyenne Mountain likes a good challenge.
