The Portland Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Scarborough Red Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Portland has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with eight straight losses, while Scarborough will come in with 19 straight wins.
Portland fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Deering on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 5-4. On the bright side, the four- run performance marked the Bulldogs' highest-scoring contest to date.
Portland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Milliken, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Milliken has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Scarborough put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Windham a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Red Storm, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Scarborough also got a great performance from Nate Masters as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Masters has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Finn Coburn and Matthew Fallona did most of the damage at the plate: Coburn went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Fallona got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Coburn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayson Cyr, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Scarborough pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Portland, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Portland might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Scarborough when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
