The Lyons Lions pushed their score all the way to 64 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 81-64 bruising from Denver Jewish Day. While losing is never fun, Lyons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Denver Jewish Day is ranked 122nd).
Despite the loss, Lyons had strong showings from Caleb Christiansen, who scored 25 points along with six steals, and Jake Lacrosse, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Lacrosse continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Bolkovatz, who scored 12 points along with five assists and two steals.
Even though they lost, Lyons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver Jewish Day only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Denver Jewish Day was led to victory by Solly Bielsky and Keenan Winnerman. Bielsky scored 26 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Winnerman scored 36 points along with five blocks and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Winnerman has scored all season. Lev Friedman was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Lyons' loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-9. As for Denver Jewish Day, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Lyons will head out on the road to face off against Union Colony Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Union Colony Prep is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Denver Jewish Day, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Denver Waldorf at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Denver Waldorf focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Thursday.
