Mesa Ridge has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Canon City Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Mesa Ridge's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Mesa Ridge stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat The Classical Academy 69-40 at home. Given Mesa Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while The Classical Academy is ranked 152nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mesa Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tanner Widic, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Riehl, who scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Canon City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 59-52 to Coronado.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Brehner Jackson, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 5 assists. Micah Sawyer was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Mesa Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Canon City, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.
Mesa Ridge took their win against Canon City in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 69-43. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Canon City's Caleb Pavlicek, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Now that he won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Mesa Ridge to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
