The Dove Creek Bulldogs waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They snuck past Ignacio with a 47-43 win. That's another feather in the cap for Dove Creek, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Dove Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kylie Gatlin led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Gatlin is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ralynn Hickman, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Despite the defeat, Ignacio had strong showings from Soly Cosio, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks, and Darlynn Mendoza, who scored 15 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Cosio posted two or more blocks. DaLaney Wesner was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Dove Creek pushed their record up to 12-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Ignacio, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Montezuma-Cortez the next time they take the court. Dove Creek will host Montezuma-Cortez at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Ignacio will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
