The Columbus Falcons will be home for the holidays to greet the Neshoba Central Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Columbus: they have been struggling with eight straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Neshoba Central has snatched up seven consecutive wins on the road.
Two weeks ago, Columbus was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 41-37 to Starkville. While losing is never fun, Columbus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Starkville is ranked 13th).
Neshoba Central has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 23 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 71-8 win over Noxubee County on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Neshoba Central has managed all season.
Neshoba Central's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kyli Truss, who scored 15 points, and Erica Lyons, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was A'tyia Allen, who scored eight points.
Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Neshoba Central, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1.
Columbus suffered a grim 63-40 defeat to Neshoba Central in their previous matchup back in February. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Columbus was down 37-15.
