The Ranburne Bulldogs will face off against the Southeastern Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Ranburne took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Weaver, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bearcats 6-4.
Ranburne got a great performance from Ava Jackson as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rylie Duke, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Autumn Lovvorn, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
15 must be Southeastern's lucky number: they beat Vincent with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Mustangs beat the Yellow Jackets by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 15-1. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Liliana Cassidy was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Brooklynn Davlin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.
Southeastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Southeastern and bumps their season record up to 14-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Ranburne, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ranburne hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Southeastern struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ranburne came up short against Southeastern in their previous matchup back in March, falling 5-2. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
