The Hazelwood Central Hawks waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Affton by a score of 43-30. Given Hazelwood Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Affton is ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Affton still got an impressive performance from Anna M daughtry, who scored 11 points along with seven steals. M daughtry is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Hazelwood Central is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Affton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
Hazelwood Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face McCluer at 9:00 a.m. on January 20th. McCluer comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Affton, they will head out on the road to challenge Hickman at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hickman will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
