Oak Harbor is a perfect 3-0 against Sehome since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats will host the Mariners at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Oak Harbor made easy work of Anacortes and carried off a 10-2 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Seahawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Reese Wasinger was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Norman, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Haylee Burleigh, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Sehome got the win against Bellingham on Tuesday by a conclusive 25-4. The result was nothing new for the Mariners, who have now won three games by 18 runs or more so far this season.
Like Oak Harbor, Sehome also got a great game from a two-way player: Sarah Kruzich. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Kruzich was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sehome got a massive performance out of Jordan Walker, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That triple was Walker's first of the season. Rebekah Peterson was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Sehome always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .804. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Oak Harbor's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Sehome, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Oak Harbor has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sehome struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Oak Harbor's way against Sehome in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Oak Harbor made off with an 18-3 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mariners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
