Even though the Wadley Bulldogs scored an imposing 57 points on Monday, the LaFayette Bulldogs still came out on top. LaFayette strolled past the Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 72-57. Given LaFayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
LaFayette found their leader in underclassman Jayden Thompson, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Thompson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Deaundra Vines, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tedrick Burns, who scored 24 points. Another player making a difference was Jaquez Wilkes, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 rebounds and nine blocks.
LaFayette is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Wadley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. LaFayette will take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wadley is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for they, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Beauregard at 5:00 p.m. on January 30th.
