Hampton proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 21) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Stockbridge Tigers 28-27. For the Hornets, this counts as revenge for the 31-21 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.
Hampton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Breyden Shingles, who rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. That's the most rushing yards Shingles has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Louis, who rushed for 65 yards and one score on only five carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hampton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 205 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stockbridge only rushed for 96 rushing yards.
Hampton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Tayvious Harris was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself. Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Kinchen, who picked up 48 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Mason Freeman was another key player, picking up 101 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Hampton's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Stockbridge, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Hampton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 27-0 defeat against Jones County on the 29th. As for Stockbridge, they have also already played their next contest, a 21-20 victory against Locust Grove on the 29th.
