Dunbar has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Thurgood Marshall Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Dunbar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
Dunbar struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Thursday (Meadowdale was 21% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Dunbar had to suffer through a rough 57-25 loss at the hands of Meadowdale. While losing is never fun, Dunbar can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 564th, while Meadowdale is ranked 120th).
Rayne Manson was Dunbar's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Manson also led the team in assists with five. Manson held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Thurgood Marshall had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 76-45 win over Ponitz Career Tech at home. Considering Thurgood Marshall has won three contests by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Thurgood Marshall can attribute much of their success to Morganne Postell, who scored 22 points along with 5 steals, and Ma?kayla Williams, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Williams' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelisha Burrow, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
Stivers School for the Arts' win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Dunbar's loss dropped theirs to 2-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Dunbar have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Thurgood Marshall struggles in that department as they've been even better at 33.8 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
Dunbar took a serious blow against Thurgood Marshall in their previous meeting back in January, falling 66-35. Can Dunbar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
