After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Burns, the Cherryville Ironmen were happy to have found some success on Friday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 56-55 win over Thomas Jefferson. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Cherryville was led to victory by Andron Patterson and Rayshawn Sewell. Patterson scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Sewell scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrien Floyd, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Cherryville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Thomas Jefferson, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
Cherryville will be playing at home against Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shelby presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cherryville in North Carolina (Shelby is ranked 175th, while Cherryville is ranked 413th). As for Thomas Jefferson, they will head out on the road to challenge Bessemer City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bessemer City is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home.
